Federal Way police are investigating shooting threats that were found written on a bathroom mirror at Todd Beamer High School on Monday.
Federal Way police Cmdr. Kurt Schwan said precautions were taken immediately to ensure the safety of all students, staff and faculty on campus, including assigning additional personnel to the campus for the remainder of the school day.
In response, school principal Anali Weatherhead sent out a message to Todd Beamer parents that stated safety is a top priority at the school.
“At approximately 12:35 p.m., a student reported a potential threat written on a bathroom wall,” Weatherhead stated. “This was reported to school administration who immediately contacted the Federal Way Police Department and they are investigating the matter.
“While police investigate and because we take any reports of a potential threat seriously, we had additional security presence on our capus after this was reported. We will continue to have additional security on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 and provide you an update once the investigation is complete.”
Weatherhead continued that in addition to the strong system Todd Beamer has in place to address misbehaviors and administer appropriate consequence, “we would like to ask our parents and families to reinforce our high expectations for appropriate student behavior and keeping our campus safe.”
She stated if parents or their child sees anything at any time that makes them concerned for a student or staff member’s safety, to call or text the Safe Schools tip line at 253-945-SAFE (7233), or the school at 253-945-2570.
