Federal Way man faces hit-and-run charges after fleeing scene of 4-car accident

Police extricated unconscious 21-year-old Kent woman from her vehicle; suspect’s car caught on fire.

A 46-year-old Federal Way man faces hit-and-run charges after he fled the scene of a four-car collision on Thursday evening on Interstate 5 in Federal Way.

The suspect was driving his vehicle and speeding on I-5 near the northbound weigh station when he struck the rear of a Mini Cooper. The force of the impact pushed the Mini Cooper into a third car, which then struck a fourth vehicle, according to Washington State Patrol. The suspect’s car then caught fire.

The 21-year-old Kent woman who was driving the Mini Cooper was unconscious and Newcastle Police extricated her from the vehicle.

Fire arrived on scene, contained the vehicle fire and provided aid to the Kent woman before she was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with injuries.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were uninjured.

As of Friday afternoon, the suspect was still at large, according to Washington State Patrol.

State Patrol impounded the suspect’s 2007 Ford Fusion for evidence.
