Federal Way Public Schools is one of 81 school districts named as a National Board Accomplished District, recognizing at least 20% of FWPS teachers have achieved National Board certification.

This certification is considered the “gold standard” in teacher certification, according to the district. It advances the quality of teaching and learning by maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.

FWPS National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) are an asset to their school communities as they take on instructional leadership roles and support other teachers. Most importantly, students in the classrooms with a NBCT have accelerated growth and higher levels of academic proficiency.

FWPS offers a strong support system for teachers pursuing National Board certification. This model has proven to be effective as the district continues to hold a high pass rate for all NBCT candidates, according to the district.

The 81 accomplished districts come from 10 states including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington.
