The goal of any basketball team is to be playing their best when the playoffs start. That’s seems to be exactly what the Decatur Gators are doing.
The Gators won their third game in a row Thursday with a 58-55 overtime victory over Auburn Mountainview. The victory ended Decatur’s regular season with a 6-4 record in the South Puget Sound League 3A Division and 11-9 overall heading into the postseason.
A win over the Gators could have clinched the SPSL 3A Division championship for the Lions, who finish the year 7-3 in conference play. Enumclaw (6-3) and Lakes (6-3) could both tie Auburn Mountainview for the SPSL 3A title with wins. Both play tonight in their regular-season finales.
Decatur will be either the SPSL’s No. 3 or 4 seed into the postseason, depending on what Lakes and Enumclaw do tonight.
Against Auburn Mountainview, the Gators used a very balanced scoring attack. Jason Young led the way with 14 points and Kevin Locascio ended up with 11.
Decatur outscored Auburn Mountainview in the four-minute overtime session after the game was tied at 51-51 at the end of regulation.
