Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle who caused a fatal hit-and-run collision and fled the scene on foot last night in Federal Way.

The accident, which happened just after 9 p.m. at South 316th Street and Pacific Highway South on Sunday, killed one woman and injured two other people, said Cmdr. Kurt Schwan, spokesman for the Federal Way Police Department.

The suspect vehicle traveling south on Pacific Highway South, reported by witnesses as “traveling at a high rate of speed,” collided with another vehicle turning from northbound Pacific Highway South to westbound South 316th Street, Schwan said.

The turning car then crashed into a street lamp pole. Police first on scene began CPR on the passenger of the turning vehicle and upon arrival, South King Fire and Rescue crews quickly extricated the passenger from the victim vehicle, said Lt. Brad Chaney, South King Fire and Rescue spokesman.

“Crews found one vehicle with significant damage to the passenger side with an unconscious, unresponsive female patient in the front passenger seat,” Chaney said.

South King Fire and Rescue and King County Medic One continued CPR on the patient, but life-saving efforts on the passenger of the turning vehicle were unsuccessful and medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The driver of the turning vehicle and the passenger of the suspect vehicle were treated with non-life threatening injuries, Schwan noted.

The driver of the southbound suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot, Schwan said.

The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating the incident and Federal Way police will not be releasing any additional information at this time, Schwan said.
