A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed at the Maplewood Apartments in Federal Way just after midnight Tuesday, Federal Way police said.
Federal Way patrol officers were dispatched to a shooting around 12:10 a.m. July 2 at the apartment complex in the 32100 block of 46th Place Southwest, according to Federal Way Police Commander Kurt Schwan.
Police found the boy deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside the apartment, Schwan said.
The deceased victim was with another 14-year-old boy at the time of the shooting, and Federal Way police are actively looking for that juvenile at this time.
“The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear,” Schwan said, “but it appears at this time the shooting may have resulted from the juveniles’ mishandling of a firearm.”
Other occupants in the apartment at the time of the shooting were unharmed and are cooperating with the investigation, Schwan stated.
The incident is under investigation with detectives on scene.
