The Federal Way Lions Club’s annual Dictionary Project continued this year with a donation to Sunnycrest Elementary School. On Thursday, the club delivered about 100 Spanish-English dictionaries to third-graders.
More than 60 percent of the 530 Sunnycrest students speak Spanish, and more than 80 percent are on a free/reduced lunch plan, said principal Rudy Baca. The school requested the Spanish-English dictionaries, which will be a welcome teaching tool for the dual language school, Baca said.
Superintendent Rob Neu also praised Baca’s leadership and the Lions’ volunteer efforts to improve education at Federal Way schools.
The Lions set a goal to provide dictionaries for all third-graders in Federal Way. Over the past seven years, the Lions have donated a total of 9,340 books.
