Norman James Munsey of Des Moines passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a short, fierce battle with Cancer on December 23rd 2018 at the age of 80. A loving father and friend, he was proud and content of a life well-lived. We will always remember him as a talented, hard-working and quick witted man. He had an enduring impact on all that knew him and leaves this world a much better place.
Our Dad grew up in Walla Walla where he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Jones and worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. He attended the University of Washington and was employed 43 years at Boeing’s Aerospace and Defense division in research and development/laboratory planning.
Dad had many interests over the years- golfing, building models, panning for gold, and tinkering. He utilized several of these skills in what became a family passion…the Theatre. Starting in the seventies he became active in regional theater on stage and behind the scenes. In 1977, he joined his wife in founding Centerstage Theatre where he enjoyed his role as Technical Director until their retirement in 2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents (Norman D. and Gladys Munsey). He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon and his children Kaylyn Henry and husband Jerry, James and wife Shawn, Kyle and Kendall, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, his sister Patty Fines and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will take place later in the year for family and close friends.
