When the idea for a food/fund drive for the Federal Way Senior Center was born, it developed from a simple desire of a few individuals to serve the seniors in our community to an overwhelming response of generosity from our friends and colleagues at organizations all over the greater Federal Way area.

We are so grateful for the funds and food donated to the center as this issue is personal to us now. When we loaded cans of corn into boxes, we pictured the kind, gentle hands of Glen giving those cans to the needy.

When we packed bags full of pasta, we pictured the weathered counters of the food bank that has seen hundreds of hungry faces. And when we delivered packages of toilet paper, we pictured the warm, cozy center providing meals, companionship and resources for so many deserving seniors.

The food/fund drive for the senior center raised $1,800 and several carloads of food, which we could not have provided without the help of our partners and our very own caregivers. Special thanks to Mill Ridge Senior Living, Avalon Care Center, Iora Primary Care, Concierge Care Advisors, Foundation House and Village Green for partnering with us to make this effort possible. Our hope is that we not only were able to bring in much-needed resources during the holiday season, but that we have been able to put the senior center into the focus of the Federal Way community for a long time moving forward.

“You guys are wonderful,” Shelley Puareia, the director of the senior center, said with tears in her eyes as bags upon bags of food were unloaded from cars. It is personal for her too, watching the seniors she loves and enjoys receive such bounty. That statement, while directed at Comfort Keepers, was meant for all who contributed to this important cause.
