I don’t know how many families are getting sick and tired of the noise from the flights going over their homes in northern Federal Way, the Lakota neighborhood in particular, but I sure am — especially being awaken at 5:30 a.m., and not being able to go back to sleep, because of the continual flights over our house on 12th Avenue SW.

It appears there are more and more flights leaving to the south than either west and/or east, since the third runway opened, then flying north before getting to SW Dash Point Road. It starts anywhere between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., and continues all day and into the night until sometimes 1 a.m.

Most of these aircraft are not the little guys, but the big guys, about the size of a Boeing 777.

After reading an article in the Seattle Times a few weeks ago, the Port of Seattle and the FAA are more concerned about the flights out of SeaTac upsetting the citizens of Seattle. In the article, it claims that 750,000 families are affected by the noise. I hardly think so, since the flights are not over that many homes.

I know that citizens in Marine Hills are getting their fill of this.

There doesn’t seem to be anyway to stop the Port of Seattle from expanding as far south as they want (i.e. Des Moines and Federal Way), or as far north, as long as it doesn’t encroach the Seattle city limits.

I guess our only recourse is to just keep calling the Aircraft Noise Complaint line at (206) 433-5393, and just keep complaining and don’t let up. Mayor Skip Priest has tried all he can do, with other mayors, but it has fallen on deaf ears, the Port of Seattle Commissioners.
