Hundreds of hungry patrons flocked to the Federal Way Farmers Market to enjoy barbecue, beans, bear claws and other tasty treats during the annual Taste of Federal Way on Saturday at The Commons.
Nine restaurants teamed up with local nonprofits and raised $8,500 during the event from ticket sales, according to Rose Ehl, events director for the farmers market.
The restaurateurs also competed for the coveted annual Taste of Federal Way title. A panelist of esteemed judges evaluated the delicious delights for aroma, taste and presentation, awarding First Place to Puerta Vallarta Twin Lakes for the restaurant’s street tacos. The Ram received Second Place from the Judges Awards, as well as the People’s Choice Award for the best ribs and mac and cheese.
K.C. Deez BBQ was recognized with the judge’s Third Place award for their burnt ends and beans.
In addition, Jimmy Mac’s was honored with the Best Decorated Booth award, and Do the Right Thing was recognized for the most ticket sales.
During the event, Joan Roach — the wife of the late Coach Roach — was honored with the Dick Mayer Community Service Award in her husband’s memory for all he contributed to the Federal Way community.
