Fifty Federal Way students will receive Advanced Placement Scholar Awards in recognition of exemplary college-level achievement on AP exams, the College Board announced.

To qualify for the awards, students achieved a score of 3 or higher on 75 percent of their AP exams. Of these 50 students, two have received an award for the third year in a row and 16 have received an award for a consecutive year.

Advanced Placement courses are rigorous, college-level classes. Students can earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nation’s colleges and universities by taking and passing AP exams.

Based on a 2017 calculation by the College Board, these successful scores represent 375 college credits and a potential cost savings of $200,000.

The awards breakdown:

■ Seven students are receiving the AP Scholar with Distinction award, which is granted to students who earn an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

■ 12 are receiving the AP Scholar with Honor award and achieved an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams.

■ 31 are receiving the AP Scholar Award for attaining scores of 3 or higher on three or more exams.
