The 2018 Special Olympics USA Games will be held July 1-6 at locations throughout the Puget Sound region. More than 4,000 athletes will compete in 14 different sports. Opening Ceremony
July 1: Watch the Parade of Athletes and listen to performances by Charlie Puth, Marshmello, Allen Stone, Ann Wilson of Heart, Massive Monkees and a 2,018-member choir. Taye Diggs emcees. Note that only clear bags will be allowed into the stadium. 12:30 p.m., $20, Husky Stadium.
Closing Ceremony
July 6: A jam-packed exhilarating week comes to an end with a celebration featuring street performers and food trucks, as well as a performance from Seattle band Hey Marseilles. 7 p.m., Lake Union Park, Free.
Swimming
Location: King County Aquatic Center, 650 SW Campus Drive, Federal Way
July 2: Practice, 8-10 a.m.; sessions run 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Events include 200m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 25m backstroke, 25m butterfly, 100m individual, 4×25 relay.
July 3: Sessions and awards held 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Events include 4×50 medley relay, 25m freestyle, 100m individual, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual, 4×50 freestyle relay.
July 4: Sessions run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events include 4×50 medley relay, 100m freestyle, 4×25 freestyle relay.
July 5: Sessions and awards run 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. Events include 4×50 freestyle relay, 400m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 4×25 freestyle relay.
July 6: Sessions and awards run 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Events include 4×100 medley relay, 800m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, 4×100 freestyle relay.
Softball
Location: Celebration Park, 1095 S. 324th St., Federal Way.
July 2: Traditional team pool play runs 8-9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; unified team pool play runs 9:30-11 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.
July 3: Traditional team pool play and unified team pool play will both run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
July 5: Traditional team medal round runs 8-11 a.m.; unified team medal round runs 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; traditional team finals run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; unified team finals run 12:30-3:30 p.m.
