Alexa Hartman, 17, has been an enthusiastic helper at the Boys and Girls Club in Federal Way for the past six years.
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, she will be rewarded for her hard work when she is recognized as the Youth of the Year for Federal Way. She will compete with 10 other youth for a chance to be the Youth of the Year for King County. The winner will advance to the state competition.
For being selected as the Federal Way Youth of the Year, Hartman was awarded a $500 scholarship. She is currently a senior at Federal Way High School.
Jennifer Youngblood, the unit director of the Federal Way Boys and Girls Club, said that Hartman is an asset to the club and has helped answering phones, supervising younger kids and making snacks.
“She just had a very high maturity level for kids her age and took this as a job even though she was just volunteering,” Youngblood said. “Any little tasks we need somebody to help us out with, she does it.”
