Flag Day celebration: Metropolitan King County Council member Pete von Reichbauer and the Soroptimist International of Federal Way will host South King County’s 29th Annual Flag Day Celebration on Saturday, June 16. The event begins with a reception at 9:30 a.m., with the official program beginning at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of The Commons mall, 1928 S. Commons, between Chase Bank and Applebee’s. This year’s event will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. Korean War veterans Maj. Gen. Nam Pyo Park of the Republic of Korea and Maj. Gen. John Hemphill of the United States will be recognized for their service and leadership. Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson will be the keynote speaker. Korean Consul General Hyung-jong Lee will also be a featured guest.

Story telling festival: The seventh annual PowellsWood Garden Storytelling Festival is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 21-22, at PowellsWood Garden, 430 South Dash Point Road. Come experience world-class storytelling as a panel of six master tellers transform PowellsWood into a riveting garden theater. Workshops run Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The full lineup of tellers performs Saturday, with seven jammed-packed hours of riveting performances. Tellers rotate among the three festival tents to provide all attendees with a sampling of their unique telling style. Run With The Cops: Run With The Cops 5K, a fundraiser effort for Special Olympics Washington through the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Campaign, is set for Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Federal Way Community Center, 876 S. 333rd St. The cost for adults is $25 in advance or $35 the day of the run. Food bank volunteers: Multi-Service Center is seeking volunteers to help with food delivery. Volunteer drivers and driver helpers are needed for weekly routes. Clothing bank volunteers: Multi-Service Center’s clothing bank provides free clothing and small household items to people in need in our community.
