Village Green is hosting a seven-week spring art history series beginning in April to anyone interested. Art historian Elizabeth Rogers will present the course on pre-Colombian South American art and religion. Classes will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, from April 3 to May 15, in the Fairfield Building meeting room at Village Green Retirement Campus, 35419 First Ave. S., Federal Way. Cost is $40 for residents and $55 for non-residents.

This course will study the art of the prehistoric and classic periods prior to the Spaniards’ arrival. Classes will focus on the varied cultures of the South American Andes and their rituals, cities, gold and jade artifacts, sculpture and textiles. A trading empire for raw materials, stone tools, ceramics, pottery and other goods developed from the region. People will also learn about the Incas and places like Machu Picchu. The first hour of each class will consist of a lecture, with the second hour featuring slides covering what was discussed. There will also be a trip to a museum.
