Student tells school staff he lives in a van | Federal Way crime blotter

Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

• At 3:56 p.m. May 12 in the 1600 block of Southwest 304th Street, a 9-year-old boy told school administrators he is living in a van with his mother and her boyfriend. The case was referred to Child Protective Services.

• At 7:04 p.m. May 9 in the 31200 block of 13th Avenue South, an assault with a knife took place.

• At 4:28 p.m. May 9 at 31625 Pacific Highway South, a suspect stole two designer pairs of sunglasses valued at $585.

• At 3:49 p.m. May 9 at 833 S.W. 308th St., a victim was approached by a suspect in Lake Grove Park and asked if he or she wished to purchase marijuana. When the victim said no, the suspect pulled a firearm and demanded cash from the victim.

• At 11:12 a.m. May 9 in the 32400 block of 50th Place Southwest, a victim called police to report fraudulent use of her debit card. The card was used to purchase $210 worth of pizza.

• At 12:26 a.m. May 9 at 33000 1st Ave. S., a suspect driving north on 1st Avenue South, drove into oncoming traffic, nearly causing a head-on collision. A DUI was issued.

• At 10:11 p.m. May 10 at 600 S.W. 320th St., police responded to a roll over accident. The driver smelled of alcohol and was staggering. A DUI was issued.

• At 9:07 p.m. May 10 at 27741 Pacific Highway S., a 7-year-old boy called 911 to report his mom left him alone at a business. The mother and child were located and the boy appeared in good condition.

• At 12:51 p.m. May 11 at 28719 Military Road S., a suspect used a forged $50 bill at a local business.

• At 8:42 a.m. May 11 in the 2800 block of Southwest 327th Street, a suspect was found inside a garage attached to a resident’s home. The person appeared to have spent the night in the garage and told police he or she wished to retrieve belongings left with the homeowner.

• Around noon Sunday, May 17, Federal Way police responded to a scene involving a deceased 15-year-old female. The death was deemed suicide by a handgun, said police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock. The incident took place in the 29400 block of Military Road. All media inquiries were handled by phone. Detectives processed the scene. There is no indication that the incident was a homicide, Schrock said.
