For the second year in a row, the Thomas Jefferson High School girls bowling team will have to consider its summer plans after placing second at the 4A state tournament Feb. 1.
The Raiders were actually sitting in third until the final games of the day, and they thought they would do no better than last year’s finish.
“All of the sudden, they huddled up together and It was like a light switch came on, and they were able to go back and bowl phenomenally,” coach Joseph Townsend said, adding the Raiders topped Rogers of Puyallup to take second.
Eastmont took home the state title.
Townsend said Ku’uolahaokalani Esquerra, a junior, shined for the Raiders, finishing seventh place overall.
The Raiders now must decide whether they want to launch another fundraising campaign so they can make a return trip to the national competition, which will take place this summer in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
“We’re just giving people a chance to catch their breath from the season before we make a decision,” Townsend said, adding the team will decide in the next few weeks.
