The following is a sample from the Federal Way Police Department crime log:
Fooling with fire: At 12:43 p.m. Jan. 23, a student at a school in the 1400 block of South 324th Street admitted to starting a fire in a plastic garbage recepticle inside the boys restroom during school hours. After it had smoldered for nearly an hour, a staff member extinguished the fire with a bucket of water. There was no damage.
Burglary abandoned: At 10:29 a.m. Jan. 23, someone reported a suspect had entered the unfinished garage of a new construction home in the 3100 block of South 337th Street during the night and attempted to steal copper wiring that was attached to the breaker box. The suspect cut the wiring and put it in a pile on the ground before leaving it behind. Damage was approximately $1,500.
A handy thief: At 8:13 a.m. Jan. 23, a suspect broke a hole in a shed of the Pyramid Masonic Center on South 340th Street. After crawling through the hole, the person then used tools to remove the bolts to the door lock before stealing numerous garden and power tools. There was video, which was downloaded, but the footage was blurry. It revealed a person wearing a gray hoodie. It was possibly the same person who stole from the shed last week.
Firearm accident: At 1:55 p.m. Jan. 22, police were called to a residence in the 30800 block of 18th Place Southwest. A woman reported her son called her and said he had accidentally fired a gun inside their residence into a mirror and cabinets. He did not report any injuries. Officers arrived, but the son had left. Police saw no sign anyone was injured but reported damage to a bathroom mirror and walls from a single gunshot. Residents in a neighboring apartment were contacted and reported no injuries.
Patient reports sexual assault: At 10:03 a.m. Jan. 22, police responded to St. Francis Hospital after a patient reported staff had sexually assaulted him. The person was at the hospital on involuntary hold for mental health issues and psychiatric evaluation. He had previously attempted to flee two days earlier and was returned by police. The patient said he was sexually assaulted while staff were trying to restrain him. The patient could not identify who assaulted him, nor provide further details. He also refused to release his medical records to police. Police could find no evidence he was sexually assaulted.
Sounds disturb neighbor: At 6:08 a.m. Jan. 22 in the 2200 block of Southwest 307th Street, police responded after a resident reported hearing a female screaming for help somewhere south of his house. When officers arrived, the resident was not home but told police he believed the screams were coming from a residence behind him. Officers attempted to contact residents at the home after confirming residents had been contacted by police in the past for domestic disputes. Despite seeing a shadow of a male walking in the living room, nobody answered the door when officers knocked. Police were not able to contact anyone after multiple attempts.
