The following is a sample from the Federal Way Police crime blotter:
Gun shots reported: At 11:52 p.m. Dec. 17 in the 400 block of South 325th Place, police were dispatched after residents reported sounds of gunfire. Officers were told by different people they heard approximately six shots in the area. One person also saw a black Chrysler in the parking lot that she did not recognize prior to hearing the shots. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle or any evidence.
Fire destroys home: At 5:41 p.m. Dec. 17 an officer responded to the 1400 block of Southwest 352nd Court in reference to a residential fire. Upon arriving, the officer saw the garage area was fully engulfed in fire, and there were two vehicles in front of the garage that were on fire. The officer contacted people outside, who said it was their residence and nobody else was inside. The officer attempted to tell residents of neighboring houses, but they were already outside. One of the residents received minor burns to her face when she opened the garage door inside the house, and the flames went toward her. The officer later spoke with the fire investigator, who stated he would advise police if the fire was deemed suspicious.
Threatening behavior: At 8:11 p.m. Dec. 16 in the 30500 block of Eighth Avenue South, an officer responded to the homeless shelter after one guest struck another in the head. The suspect was described as being angry and intoxicated. After being detained, the man claimed he was tough and dangerous because he is Chinese and Filipino and because he fought in the Vietnam War. He made vague threats about “coming back and showing them.”
Drunken fighting: At 7:34 p.m. Dec. 16 in the 31000 block of Pacific Highway South, an officer observed a person screaming at a man as though challenging him to fight at the Jack In The Box. The officer stopped and ordered the suspect to leave, which he did only after screaming again and urinating in the roadway. When the suspect began to walk, he stumbled repeatedly and nearly fell into the road, which had heavy traffic. The suspect appeared to be very intoxicated. The man was involuntarily committed.
Scary break-in attempt: At 8:04 p.m. Dec. 15, officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Southwest 300th Place after a person reported an alarm for her rear garage doorwent off for while she was in the home. Officers discovered an unknown suspect used a crowbar to pry the garage door and force it open. The door was only opened slightly because of items piled on the other side, so nobody entered the garage.
Not a speedy getaway: At 12:08 p.m. Dec. 15 in the 1200 block of South 324th Street, an officer confronted a male who was pushing a shopping cart filled with boxes of new tools and other items. The officer suspected the items had been stolen from a car or store. The man said he found the tools in the Safeway parking lot and took them. He was arrested for theft. It was later determined the tools were taken from Home Depot.
Thief with a green thumb: At 12:34 p.m. Dec. 15, a person in the 2000 block of Southwest 306th Lane reported between midnight and 5 a.m., someone dug up nine 5- to 10-foot maple trees from his side yard. He said this is the second time in recent months where maple trees have been stolen from his side yard.
Brazen carjacking: At 8:21 p.m. Dec. 14, officers responded to a male shoplifting at the WalMart on 16th Avenue South. When officers confronted the suspect, he resisted arrest and ran to an occupied vehicle and got in the back seat. The suspect then fought officers in the vehicle and carjacked it with an officer still inside. The officer jumped from the moving vehicle, and officers later performed a pursuit immobilization technique (PIT) on it. The suspect fought officers after the PIT, and he was taken to St. Francis Hospital for injuries he received while fighting officers.
Bus stop assault: At 5:55 p.m. Dec. 14 in the 37000 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest, police responded to a report of a juvenile assault that occurred at a bus stop. The victim reported three other juveniles assaulted her by punching her in the stomach and hitting her head on the ground. The family just wanted the incident documented. An officer spoke to the other children reported in the incident, and they denied anything occurred.
Expensive trip to store: At 3:59 pm. a male called to report he had parked his truck in the Harbor Freight parking lot on Pacific Highway South and had been gone for 30 minutes. When he returned, he found his tie-down straps in his truck bed had been cut and his Husky Rollaway Toolbox was stolen. The toolbox had about $1,490 in electrician tools. A check of local pawn shops was negative.
Chase abandoned: At 1:59 p.m. Dec. 14, police officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2000 block of 320th St. The vehicle came back as stolen, and the female driver fled the scene, traveling south on Interstate 5. The vehicle exited in Fife and was then spotted going south on Pacific Highway. An officer attempted a stop, but the vehicle kept going. A pursuit immobilization technique was going to be attempted, but the chase was called off because the vehicle speed and height made the procedure unsafe.
Taunting texts: At 12:14 p.m. Dec. 14, a female called to report her vehicle had been keyed in the 27000 block of Pacific Highway South a few days prior while it was parked at her complex. The victim said she also received text messages from an anonymous texting application asking if she liked what happened to her car. She couldn’t prove who sent the texts and didn’t know who damaged her car.
