Federal Way police are seeking extradition of a 22-year-old Kent man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend in Federal Way Friday night after he was detained by police in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

According to the Federal Way Police Department’s Facebook page, the suspect was taken into custody early Sunday and placed in a detention facility in Oregon. Police said he was found in a vehicle similar to that seen at the crime scene outside of a smoke shop in the 32900 block of First Avenue South.

According to FWPD spokeswoman Cathy Schrock, at approximately 8:25 p.m. Friday, the suspect approached the victim, whom police have identified as 22-year-old Evelyn Zaragoza of Federal Way, while she sat in a vehicle with another man at the strip mall on First Avenue. Schrock said Zaragoza had reportedly told other people she feared her ex-boyfriend was following her and had asked the man to go with her that night.

The suspect shot the victim through the window before fleeing in a black Honda-type vehicle with silver rims.

The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

According to Schrock, the suspect was taken into custody in Oregon on an unrelated charge.

Once extradited to King County, the man will face domestic violence murder charges, according to Federal Way police. The man’s identity will be released when he is charged in King County.

The identity of the victim, a 22-year-old Federal Way woman, will be identified by the King County Medical Examiner.
