Join the Federal Way Symphony for its annual presentation of the Messiah at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center, 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. This year the Federal Way Symphony Singers will be joined by the Federal Way Chorale and Breathe of Aire.
Composed by George Frideric Handle in 1741, based on text from the King James Bible, the Messiah has become one of the most frequently performed choral works in Western music. It premiered in Dublin in 1742 as a rather modest endeavor but is now regularly performed with a large chorus and orchestra.
The Messiah relays the prophecy, birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the use of both solo and choral compositions. Performed primarily during Advent and the Christmas season, it has become a holiday musical tradition.
