Cloud 9 Comedy Night: National touring comedians are coming to Federal Way for a new monthly comedy show every third Tuesday of the month at Billy McHale’s, 1320 S. 324th St., Suite A10. First event begins at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and features headliner Jose Bolanos, who is known for crazy stunts and high energy. Also featuring Federal Way’s own Cheri Hardman and hosted by Narin Vann. Free repair: A free event called a “repair cafe” invites people to bring electronics, furniture, clothing and other household items for skilled “fixers” to repair them from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 25 at Federal Way City Hall, 33325 Eighth Ave. S. Residents are encouraged to sign up in advance and describe what small household items they want to bring. Walk-ins are welcome and everyone will be assisted as time is available. The event is sponsored by the King County EcoConsumer program, City of Federal Way and the South King Tool Library. Souper Supper: A raffle and soup dinner supporting the Federal Way Caregiving Network will run 5:30-8 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Christian Faith Center, 33645 20th Ave. S., Federal Way. Haunted pool party: The King County Aquatic Center is hosting a Haunted Pool Party featuring a costume contest, recreation swimming, coin dive, “ghoul ball,” canoe rides, a haunted tunnel, giant inflatable turtle and more. 300-pound pumpkin: Master sculptor Russ Leno will carve a 300-pound pumpkin and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at Branches Garden Center, 3909 S. 320th St. Leno has been featured on national TV shows and in magazines. He has received awards for the world’s largest giant pumpkin sculpture and the world’s tallest and longest sand sculptures. The public is invited and all ages are welcome. Pumpkin patch: Light of Christ Community Garden’s mud-free pumpkin patch is open through Oct. 31 at 34249 21st Ave. SW in Federal Way. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Take photos, play games, take a tractor ride and vote for your favorite scarecrow. Weekends will include a bake sale. Fall Foliage Festival and Plant Sale: The free event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21-28 at the world-renowned Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden, 2525 S. 336th St., Federal Way. Jet Cities Chorus at the PAEC: The Jet Cities Chorus will bring its four-part, A cappella barbershop-style harmony to the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center for two shows Oct. 28. The performance will feature the GQ Quartet, a Baltimore-based female barbershop-style group that has appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion.” Shows start at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $25-$35. Pixie and the Grocer: Thistle Theatre returns with Hans Christian Anderson’s “Pixie and the Grocer” at noon Oct. 28 at the Knutzen Family Theatre, 3200 SW Dash Point Road, Federal Way. The classic story focuses on a Pixie who lives with a greedy grocery and observes a poor poet give up food in exchange for an old book. The Pixie see the beauty of poetry dance before his eyes and contemplates switching his services from the grocer to the poet in exchange for a less comfortable life. Kronos Quartet at the PAEC: At 8 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center, the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet will present its spin on contemporary and classical compositions that combine “a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually re-imagining the string quartet.” Kronos Quartet has been performing for more than 40 years and has performed with an eclectic range of artists. The show will continue with that tradition, described by The New Yorker as proving that a string quartet “could become a kind of all-terrain vehicle in contemporary culture.” Tickets are $44-$79. Aquarium fun: The Marine Science and Technology Center (MaST) Aquarium is open to the public every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 28203 Redondo Beach Drive S. (next to Salty’s).
