The following is a sample from the Federal Way Police Log:
Drug deal gone bad: At 3:01 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Commons Mall, police responded to a shooting near the east side of Target. Officers located a vehicle along with shell casings and broken glass, suggesting several gunshots had been fired. During the investigation, nine bags of marijuana were found scattered throughout the parking lot. Police believe the shots stemmed from a drug deal gone bad. Two black male suspects were seen running from the scene and are still at large. The vehicle was impounded for a search warrant. Later that day, a male saying that he was a victim of the incident came to the Federal Way police station wanting to talk. The case is still under investigation at this time.
School threat: At 3:06 p.m. Oct. 18 at 1101 S. Dash Point Road, police were dispatched to Sacajawea Middle School after a student posted on a social media site that he was going to shoot up the school the next day. The student was arrested and booked into juvenile detention.
Drunk husband: At 12:07 a.m. Oct. 18 in the 33000 block of 18th Place South, police responded to a call about a man who had cut himself while drinking heavily. The man’s wife was upset with him because she does not like it when he drinks. While playing with the pocket knife, he closed it on his own hand, causing a deep laceration on his right wrist. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.
Stab wound: At 3:11 a.m. Oct. 18 in the 33300 block of 20th Avenue South, police responded to reports of a man with an accidental stab wound. An intoxicated man had fallen on a bag that contained a knife. The officer found the man seated on the floor next to a bag with a knife hanging from his side. The knife had a “gut hook” that was caught on the man’s skin, keeping it from falling to the ground. The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
One bullet hole: At 10:24 p.m. Oct. 18 in the 31200 block of 8th Avenue South, a drive-by shooting occurred. One vehicle was struck, resulting in one bullet hole. The case is under investigation.
Assisted living facility: At 9:41 a.m. Oct. 17 in the 31000 block of 14th Avenue South, a staff member at an assisted living facility reported that a woman had pushed her and shoved a used Kleenex into her mouth. The woman has a history of depression and her behavior is becoming more erratic and aggressive. She has also been combative with staff and other residents.
Student’s car: At 10:50 a.m. Oct. 17 at Federal Way High School, an adult visitor observed several rounds of spent ammunition and an Airsoft pistol on the seats of a parked car that belongs to a student. An investigation revealed no crime had been committed.
Potato gun: At 5:17 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 33100 block of 26th Avenue Southwest, police responded to a report from a person who heard five shots from a potato gun coming from the area of Olympic View Elementary School. Several potatoes hit the person’s house, but there was no damage, and no injuries were reported. This has been an ongoing problem for about a week. The officer checked the area for a potato gun, but didn’t find one.
Suspicious truck: At 7:10 a.m. Oct. 16 in the 30600 block of 16th Avenue South, a student at Federal Way High School reported being followed by a suspicious black Ford truck. The student said the truck had followed him in his vehicle all the way to the school and slowly rolled past as the student was walking into the building. The truck then doubled back and began following him again. No suspect information is available.
Punched in the face: At 1:37 p.m. Oct. 16 in the 31900 block of 3rd Place Southwest, police received a call about a couple who were fighting over marital issues. The wife punched the husband in the face, causing a small laceration to his lip. She admitted punching the husband and said she had just snapped. She was booked into SCORE Jail. The husband refused to cooperate with the investigation because he did not want his wife to get into trouble.
Gun in a grocery bag: At 3 p.m. Oct. 16 in the 31500 block of 23rd Avenue South, police were contacted by a passerby who saw a possible firearm left in a bag outside the SHAG apartments. Upon investigation, police found a black loaded firearm in a grocery bag. Inside the bag was a cell phone that belonged to a resident in the apartment complex. The resident had proper registration, and the firearm was returned to its owner without incident.
Under the influence: At 11:58 p.m. Oct. 16 in the 2300 block of South 320th Street, police responded to a report of a man staggering in the dining room at McDonald’s while holding a knife. He was detained without incident and showed signs of being under the influence. The man later admitted to using heroin and methamphetamine. He was permanently banned from the restaurant, and was committed to St. Francis Hospital.
