Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Smoldering fire: At 2:42 p.m. Oct. 1 in the 2400 block of South 312th Street, South King Fire and Rescue dispatched multiple units to a smoldering fire in the green belt by the Argyle Apartments. The fire was put out. There were signs of a transient camp at the site of the fire. At this time, no crime has been committed and there are no leads for the cause of the fire.

Hat and ice cream: At 12:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in the 31600 block of 3rd Place Southwest, a woman called to report that she was in a heated argument with her ex-girlfriend’s 12-year-old son. She asked police to standby while she collected her ice cream from the freezer along with her hat.

Shot in leg: At 3:52 p.m. Oct. 1 in the 35100 block of Pacific Highway South, a victim was shot in the leg by an unknown suspect. The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.

Wild man at Wild Waves: At 9:31 p.m. Oct. 1 at Wild Waves Theme Park, police contacted a man who was attempting to enter the amusement park via a restricted area. Upon contact with police, the man was confrontational, but walked off the property after being instructed to do so. About five minutes later, the suspect returned to the west parking lot and started harassing officers by yelling “f—-k the police” and shining a flashlight at the officers by demanding that they try to arrest him. After being ignored, the suspect eventually left the area.

Bullet hole: At 2:33 p.m. Oct. 1 on Southwest 311th Place, a victim called to report finding a bullet hole in his wooden front door. An officer recovered a .45-caliber slug that was lodged in the door. Police report no previous calls of an illegal gun discharge in the area.

Not his wallet: At 4:59 a.m. Oct. 1 in the 33300 block of Pacific Highway South, officers responded to a medical aid call at Cafe Noir where a male was not breathing. Police began aid until South King Fire and Rescue arrived. A wallet was removed from the man’s pocket, but the wallet didn’t belong to him. The man was transported to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

Assault of a child: At 2:42 p.m. Oct. 1 in the 2200 block of Star Lake Road, a mother called police to report the sexual assault of her 5-year-old daughter.

Rock throwers: At 3:26 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 300 block of South 320th Street, a security guard on the scene reported seeing two teen males throw a rock at his car. The rock broke the rear window and dented the car’s rear pillar, causing about $710 in damages. Although the incident was caught on surveillance video, no suspects have been identified.

Drive-by shooting: At 4:55 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 28800 block of 23rd Place South near South 288th Street, an unknown suspect fired five to seven shots that struck two vehicles and two residences. No injuries were reported.

Gold necklace: At 6 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 1400 block of Southwest 312th Street, a victim reported that he had been smoking on his patio when he was approached by an unknown male who asked for a cigarette. The male then snatched a gold necklace from the victim. A brief fight ensued, then the male fled the area. Officers believe the victim was not being entirely truthful about the incident.

Vandalism: At 7:46 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 32200 block of Pacific Highway South, police responded to a report that two windows had been broken at Subway. A rock was found in front of each window.

Campers banned: At 11:13 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 1000 block of South 324th Place, officers conducted a walk-through check of Celebration Park’s trails and found four transients who were illegally camping in the woods. The campers were identified and banned from the park for one year.

Lost two teeth: At 10:49 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 30900 block of 1st Avenue South, a victim called to report he was assaulted the day before by a known person over a dispute about $60. When the victim came home from work, the suspect snuck up from behind and punched the victim in the face. The victim lost two teeth and suffered a fractured jaw. The victim refused to cooperate with the investigation and did not want the suspect arrested.

Safeway shopper: At 11:31 a.m. Sept. 30, a woman reported that her purse had been stolen from her cart while shopping the day before at Safeway, 1207 S. 320th St.

Hosing around: At 6:02 p.m. Sept. 30, police responded to a call about two suspicious men at Virginia Mason, 33501 1st Way S. Two unknown white males – one with a beard, the other with tattoos – had entered the building and asked for the vending machines. They walked to the end of the building and propped open a locked exterior door with a hose. They were seen driving a white Ford truck.

Purse thief: At 9:20 a.m. Sept. 29 in the 500 block of South 348th Street, a woman parked her car and took her child into daycare. The receptionist saw a suspect enter the woman’s car and take a purse. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate a suspect.

Runaway: At 9:28 a.m. Sept. 29 in the 33300 block of 8th Avenue South, a caller reported that her 17-year-old son ran away from home earlier that week. The woman’s son is a heroin user and frequent runaway who was last seen wearing culinary clothes with an undershirt and blue jeans.

Climbing a ladder: At 11:05 a.m. Sept. 29 in the 2400 block of Star Lake Road, an officer responded to a verbal domestic dispute. A woman said her ex-boyfriend was at her apartment to pick up his belongings. When she would not open the door, the ex-boyfriend tried to enter the apartment by climbing a ladder to her deck. The ex-boyfriend had left before officers arrived.

Bully on the bus: At 3:20 p.m. Sept. 29, a woman brought her 11-year-old son to the Federal Way Police Department to speak with an officer about bullying. The boy said another 11-year-old student had pushed him while riding the bus home from Illahee Middle School. The student has told the boy he should hurt himself or commit suicide. The mother said she was looking for an officer to reassure her son that he had help if a crime was committed and she was not around.

Flat tires: At 4:54 a.m. Sept. 28 in the 32200 block of 39th Avenue South, a resident of Peasley Canyon Apartments reported that the air had been let out of her tires. Upon further investigation, police found 11 total vehicles in the vicinity with deflated tires. No suspects have been identified.

Naked man: At 8:53 a.m. Sept. 28 in the 31000 block of 28th Avenue South, police responded to Wildwood Elementary School for a report of lewd conduct in which a victim saw a male standing naked in the doorway as children were boarding a bus in front of the address. No arrests were reported.

Woman dies: At 6:32 p.m. Sept. 28 in the 30400 block of 3rd Avenue South, police responded to CPR in progress. A female was located without a pulse and was not breathing. Medics were unable to revive the woman. The woman’s live-in boyfriend had found her in bed; she had made a call from her cell phone about an hour before. No crime was committed. No other information was available.
