Federal Way police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old local man.

At 10:27 p.m., Saturday, a motorist reported an unresponsive man lying in the street with a head injury. Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Southwest 320th Street and found the man, noting the injury was “severe,” according to police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock. South King Fire & Rescue responded and ultimately pronounced the man deceased.

Officials with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office removed the man from the scene.

“Preliminary investigation following the autopsy this morning revealed the man had a blood alcohol level of .58 (seven times the legal limit),” Schrock said. “It is believed that he fell into the roadway, and may have been struck by a vehicle.”

Schrock said the man’s identity will be revealed after his family is contacted.

She said the incident was initially incorrectly reported as a shooting. Police say evidence does not support that conclusion, however.
