Federal Way Eagles senior gymnast Polly Tieu was nominated and selected as the Federal Way Mirror Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 16-20.
Tieu began participating in gymnastics at age of 10 via club sports as a hobby. One year later, though, she was on a team and entering competitions. After proving herself as an asset to Eagles gymnastics, Tieu stopped competing at the club level after her sophomore year to commit full time to Federal Way.
As a result, Tieu is a three-time state competitor for the Eagles and a two-time state champion at the club level. Tieu specializes in the uneven bars and vault.
After graduation, she plans to continue gymnastics through acrobatics and tumbling in college. Recently at a Jefferson meet, Tieu took first in all-around, second on beam and first on floor.
