Update: South King Fire and Rescue reported the gas leak was stopped at around 4 p.m. and that roads opened shortly after.
A section of Pacific Highway South is closed due a major broken gas line, police say.
Both directions are closed between South 352nd Street and South 348th Street.
Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said construction seems to be the cause of the gas leak, according to a preliminary report of the cause. She anticipates it to be three hours before the gas line is repaired and the roads open.
South King Fire and Rescue completed a HAZMAT evaluation of businesses in the immediate area and recommended Blue Island Sushi & Roll close as their business is the closest to the break. Jimmy Mac’s Roadhouse voluntarily closed, Schrock said.
According to South King Fire and Rescue’s Twitter account, @SouthKingFire, they are on-scene along with Puget Sound Energy crews, who are making a plan for repair work.
More PSE crews arriving. SKFR crews in place to support PSE. We are told this could take awhile and to please be patient. pic.twitter.com/6KCRIfdNTU
