Malcolm Cola of Federal Way was nominated and selected as the Mirror’s Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 12-16.
The senior forward has wreaked havoc on defense for the unbeaten Federal Way Eagles (8-0, 5-0). Cola has 22 blocked shots in his last five games.
“Defense is a major strength for Malcolm, and defense is something he enjoys playing and an area where he excels,” Federal Way coach Jerome Collins said.
The 6-foot-7-inch senior said he is a very competitive person, which is why he prides himself on his defense. No matter who he is guarding, Cola said his goal is to always prevent them from scoring.
In his most recent game against Thomas Jefferson, Cola contributed with seven points and four rebounds. He also chipped in on the defensive end with two steals.
Cola plans to pursue basketball after his career at Federal Way comes to an end. He enjoys spending time with friends and family and said movies are a passion of his. Music plays an important role in his life, and his daily music choices stem from how he is feeling on any given day.
