A new urgent care clinic has opened in Federal Way in the former Arby’s location on Highway 99.
The clinic is the third CHI Franciscan Health and CityMD have opened in the Pacific Northwest. Representatives from CHI, CityMD and the city gathered to celebrate the clinic opening Dec. 6 at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We are thrilled to expand CityMD’s unique care model into our existing footprint and provide our neighbors and families in Federal Way access to premier urgent care services,” Ketul J. Patel, chief executive officer of CHI Franciscan Health, said in a press release. “CHI Franciscan is committed to answering the needs of our communities and increasing access to convenient high quality care throughout the region.”
According to the press release, the Federal Way clinic is the first in CHI Franciscan’s primary area of service, where the health care system offers nearby St. Francis Hospital and many primary care and specialty care clinics. The CityMD center will be a significant addition to the health care system’s continuum of care.
CityMD delivers a special care model to patients by primarily employing highly trained emergency medicine doctors, setting CityMD apart from most urgent care clinics across the country that are typically operated by advanced registered nurse practitioners or physician assistants.

CityMD Aftercare offers an innovative service for its patients in addition to the care patients receive during their visit by providing them with the proper follow-up appointments they may need post-visit. Staffed by physicians, clinicians and referral coordinators, CityMD Aftercare helps patients navigate the complex health care system by giving the patient direction towards the appropriate specialists or follow-up appointments. This ensures that patients’ path to better health continues after they leave CityMD.
