Edward Stickel was born on March 25, 1920 in Newark, NJ to Charles and Christina (Geiger) Stickel. As a boy growing up in Maplewood, he fell in love with airplanes and flying. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1937 and later
attended Casey Jones School of Aeronautics. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and became a first lieutenant and instructor of flight engineers on B-17s and B-24s. In 1944 he was sent to Seattle to be trained on B-29s where he met and fell in love with Doris Knutzen. They were married on February 23, 1945 and began 64 wonderful
years together.
After the war Ed and Doris settled in Delaware where he continued his love affair with airplanes as an engineer with Trans World Airlines. In 1949 they moved to Federal Way where Ed began his 35 year career as a Boeing engineer. Along with airplanes he enjoyed family, hiking, fishing, photography, his church, and traveling the world with Doris. On January 28, after a five year battle with lung cancer, Ed began his final flight on his own wings. He is survived by his wife Doris, sons Mark (Anna)
and Timothy (Charleen), daughter Julie Hedges (Dwight), grandson Robert (Nicole), granddaughters Lisa Moore (Kevin) and Lara Christopher, great-granddaughter
