Gunfire at a Federal Way apartment complex Tuesday morning had a nearby elementary school and hospital on temporary lockdown.

Police say that, just before 6 a.m., a witness at the Fox Run Apartments, located at 34720 Second Lane S. in Federal Way, reported seeing three “‘young’ black males breaking into a vehicle in the [parking] lot.” One of the three suspects reportedly fired “several shots from a handgun” at the witness.

No injuries were reported. Panther Lake Elementary, about 1,000 feet from the apartments, and St. Francis Hospital, about a half-mile away, were put on temporary lockdown. The lockdown at the school occurred before most students and staff had arrived.

Officers established a perimeter and searched the area with a K-9 unit but were unable to locate the suspects.
