The city of Federal Way has set Thursday, June 2, as the date of the first community violence prevention meeting.
The event, scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Federal Way Community Center gym (876 S. 333rd St.), is being called the Violence Prevention Coalition community meeting. It will feature an update on the status of recent major crimes investigations, a discussion of potential anti-violence initiatives, crime-reduction ideas, and an announcement of Violence Prevention Coalition steering committee.
The meeting agenda, an idea generation sheet, and a contact form are available on the city of Federal Way’s website.
The idea for such a coalition has been discussed at City Hall since the February murder of 16-year-old Wesley Gennings. It became more imperative after another murder in April and the three murders in 48 hours earlier this week.
Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell announce the meeting Friday in an email.
“Your attendance and feedback is important,” he wrote. “During times of tragedy, we need to come together and work together to discuss ways we can enhance public safety and prevent violence in our community.”
