A 19-year-old Federal Way man was killed in shooting at The Cove Apartment Homes Sunday night.

Officers were dispatched to the apartments, located in the 33000 block of First Ave. S., at 8:51 p.m. after callers reported “sounds of shots fired.” They found Jeffrey G. McLaren between two vehicles in the apartment parking lot, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Federal Way Police Department Deputy Chief Steve Neal said McLaren was shot multiple times.

Police said they could not identify or find witnesses to the shooting. Federal Way detectives and crime scene investigators said they worked throughout the night to uncover and analyze the available evidence.

At this time, police don’t have a suspect in custody but are working on several tips and leads.

This was the second shooting that occurred over the weekend. On Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at a different apartment complex; he survived and was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Both investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to these crimes are urged to contact the Federal Way Police Department by visiting their tip website at www.safecityfw.com or by calling 253-835-2121.
