Federal Way police are searching for a man who robbed an Alaska USA Credit Union inside a Federal Way Safeway.
On July 20, officers were called about a bank robbery at 1207 S. 320th St. The suspect, described as white or Hispanic man with facial hair, entered the credit union wearing pajama pants and a hoodie tightly pulled around his face.
A teller told police the man handed her a note demanding money. As she gathered money from her cash drawer, she dropped a note on the ground that told to her co-workers a robbery was in progress.
The suspect took the money and fled the scene. Witnesses saw him get into a tan sedan heading toward Celebration Park, and they were able to take down his license plate number to give to police.
Police later spoke to a man who reported a tan sedan had parked “haphazardly” at Vince’s restaurant. The sedan’s license plate “nearly” matched the one provided by the witness, and further investigation revealed the suspect was caught on Safe City video surveillance.
Officers learned the suspect had been last seen walking around the corner, away from Vince’s, and heading south on Pacific Highway South. Eventually, the suspect walked up the stairs to a Goodwill store at 32521 Pacific Highway South. Goodwill management identified the suspect the next day.
