October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Federal Way Coalition Against Trafficking and the Federal Way Domestic Violence Task Force are inviting the community to join them in saying, “No More.”

The group’s meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Ron Sandwith EX3 Teen Center (31453 28th Ave. S.), will have a brief remembrance ceremony to honor survivors and victims of domestic violence, especially those who didn’t survive it.

“Many people think domestic violence and sexual assault don’t affect them. They’re wrong,” the group said when announcing their next meeting. “In one year alone, 12.7 million men and women in the U.S. are physically abused, raped or stalked by their partners. That’s approximately the number of people in New York City and Los Angeles combined. It’s 24 people every minute.”

The featured speaker will be Beth Hollis. Attendees will be invited to write their own “No More” statement, and a photography “booth” will be available for photos with the statements. Information on the similarities between domestic violence and human trafficking will be presented, discussing how they often overlap and intersect.
