A Federal Way man who was shot by a Washington State Patrol trooper on Sunday has been booked into Snohomish County Jail.

The shooting took place about 7 a.m. Dec. 16 after a high-speed chase. A state trooper had been notified of a Ford truck that was driving recklessly on northbound I-5. The trooper attempted to pull over the truck near the 128th Street exit, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver continued northbound at speeds reaching 90 mph, according to the sheriff’s office. The state trooper deployed a spike strip, which damaged one of the truck’s tires. The driver kept going and eventually exited the freeway onto State Route 531, then turned onto State Route 9.

The driver pulled into a gas station parking lot at 164th Street SE. As troopers approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to assault them with his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. A trooper fired on the 50-year-old driver and injured him, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect was taken into custody.

The driver was discharged from Harborview Medical Center on Dec. 18, and was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for second-degree assault and attempting to elude law enforcement. No further details are available at this time.
