Federal Way resident Roger Flygare and Milton Mayor Katrina Asay have announced their candidacies for District 30 State Representative position 2.
The position was recently vacated by Skip Priest, who declared his candidacy for Federal Way’s first mayoral election.
Flygare, a Democrat, owns two legal service businesses in Federal Way and serves as president of the Washington Court Reporters Association.
“My campaign goal is to fix the situation we find ourselves in,” said Flygare, referring to the current tax structure, budget, unemployment and job loss.

Asay, who has a background in real estate, will run as a Republican. Asay has served as mayor of Milton for six years, and said she inherited a bankrupt city that required painful cuts of more than 25 percent of staff. She hopes to address expenditures made in Olympia.
“I’m just so concerned of not dealing with the issue of spending in the Legislature,” she said. “They’re just mandating an open wound.”
