There is an initiative on the horizon promulgated by Tim Eyman that would limit the length of new taxes and ask voters if they want to amend the state constitution to require a two-thirds majority for all tax increases in the state.

Just a few weeks ago this year, in a well written decision, Washington’s Supreme Court Justices said requiring a two-thirds majority for tax increases was unconstitutional.

It needs to be pointed out under state law that only legislators can initiate amendments, which eventually require voter approval to be enacted.

With all of that in mind, it would seem that this is an effort of folly and futility. If you care about the education system, don’t be hoodwinked into thinking this is a good thing because it’s not.

Our Legislature is having a hard time completing its constitutional duty as it is without being hamstrung by this kind of political nonsense.
