The Thomas Jefferson girls basketball team is one game away the Class 4A State Tournament, thanks to a come-from-behind, overtime win over the Rogers Rams Tuesday night.

The West Central District Tournament victory at Mount Tahoma High School set up a winner-to-state, loser-out game at 6 p.m. at Auburn High School Thursday night against South Kitsap. The Wolves beat Puyallup Tuesday in another loser-out game. South Kitsap (14-11) finished fourth in the Narrows League.

The Raiders (16-7) outscored Rogers, 5-4, during the four-minute overtime session Tuesday, thanks to a big three-pointer from junior Hannah Kiyohara to start overtime. Jefferson trailed by as many as 13 points during the game, before outscoring the Rams, 17-9, during the fourth quarter.

The Raiders got a huge second half from Unique Taufa’asau and another big game from 6-foot-1 Stacy Albrecht.

Taufa’asau, a 5-foot-9 junior, tallied all 14 of her points in the third and fourth quarters after TJ trailed 28-19 at halftime. Albrecht, the Raiders’ leading scorer at 13.4 points a game, finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

The win over Rogers was also a little revenge from a season ago. The Rams ended Jefferson’s 2008 season at the West Central District Tournament.

Auburn Riverside 59, Federal Way 37

The Eagles’ hot streak came to an end Tuesday night in the West Central District Tournament, thanks to the two-time, defending Class 3A champion Ravens. Federal Way (21-5) came into the game on a 10-game winning streak, including two-straight over Auburn Riverside.

The Eagles, who have already clinched a berth into next week’s Class 4A State Girls Basketball Tournament, will play Mount Tahoma at 4 p.m. at Puyallup High School Saturday night. The winner will earn the district’s third seed to state and the loser will be the sixth seed. Mount Tahoma (21-5) lost to the No.1-ranked Kentwood Conquerors in the other district semifinal Tuesday night.

The Eagles hung tough with the Ravens during the first half. Federal Way trailed 17-15 after the first quarter and 30-24 at halftime because of the play of sophomore Talia Walton. The 6-foot-2 Walton scored 12 of her team-high 14 points during the first half.

But the third quarter is when Auburn Riverside separated from the Eagles. The Ravens outscored the Eagles, 21-4, during the third quarter. Federal Way shot just 20 percent during the second half and finished with 21 turnovers on the night.
