A man was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries shortly after 9:40 a.m. March 25 after a collision between a Kia compact car and King County Metro access bus at Pacific Highway South and South 324th Street.
Police are investigating the scene to determine the cause of the accident, police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said. They believe the driver of the car, a man in his 50s, may have suffered from a medical condition that led to the accident, she said.
The injuries he suffered are believed to have resulted from the collision, not his medical condition, Schrock said. The specifics of the man’s injuries and medical history are not currently known, she said. Details are unknown about the direction and speed the drivers were traveling.
The access bus, which was carrying one passenger and the driver, came out of the accident with its front end hugging the sidewalk at South 324th Street. Neither of the occupants were injured. The bus appeared to suffer little damage, while the car’s right side and front end appeared moderately damaged.
Parts of the car were strewn about the intersection. Police closed the left-turn lanes on westbound South 324th Street and northbound Pacific Highway South for several hours to conduct their investigation. Westbound South 324th Street was also closed to through traffic.
