Brooklake Christian School is participating in two pilot programs that have made various advanced technology available to their students.
The use of iPads, Bluetooth keyboards and other technology tools are enhancing instruction, discovery, review and assessment at the school.
Head of Schools Keri Ingraham and Kyle Ferguson, technology director, are providing the leadership and staff technology training for the increased technology training.
Ferguson recently returned from an iPad Summit with educators from around the country exploring ways to use iPads. The focus on increased reading and math skills was of particular emphasis for equipping students as tomorrow’s future leaders.
As a result, Brooklake is participating in a pilot program with the Tiggly Company, which builds physical manipulatives that interact with iPads and other tablets to enhance student learning related to math and reading.
The school is also partnering with a company called Motion Math. The school received 25 kits that included software, each kit is valued at $30, Ferguson noted.
“It’s not simply about placing new technology in students’ hands for technology’s sake, rather it is about giving students a perspective as to how everyday tools and technologies from tablets to smartphones can help them learn,” Ferguson said. “Student interest in math, science and English has soared by adding this interactive technology element.”
Brooklake Christian School is located at 629 S. 356th St., Federal Way.
