National Volunteer Week (April 12-18) is meant to inspire, recognize, and encourage volunteerism.

The Federal Way Police Department looks forward to this week each year as an opportunity to say thank you and show appreciation to the nearly 50 police department volunteers by hosting a luncheon at City Hall.

These volunteers put in thousands of hours each year helping to provide a higher level of service to the Federal Way community — everything from fingerprinting to picking up shopping carts to greeting and assisting visitors at City Hall.

Once a year during National Volunteer Week, the police department holds a luncheon to show appreciation and recognize individual achievements. This year two volunteers, Don Elya and Michael Redling, were awarded the Community Policing Partnership Award for reaching 500 hours of volunteer service.
