GATE Selection: All elementary schools in Federal Way Public Schools have Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) programs for qualifying students. Teachers, parents or community members can nominate students for the program. A selection team determines who will be in the class based on a combination of academic achievement, cognitive ability and exceptional creativity. When a student is placed in a GATE classroom in Federal Way, they remain with the same teacher and group of students for up to three consecutive years, depending on when they enter the program.
The selection process occurs each year in the spring and families are notified in June. Nomination forms are available in each school office and are due May 1. Late applications will not be accepted. For more information, visit any district elementary school.
