A 67-year-old Federal Way woman was stabbed to death in her home by her boyfriend on May 3.

King County prosecutors have charged Paul Kim, 68, with first-degree murder with a deadly weapon enhancement.

Kim remains in police custody at Harborview Medical Center, and will be booked into King County Jail upon release. On Wednesday, his medical condition was listed as serious.

The woman, Baerbel K. Roznowski, sought an anti-harassment order against Kim on May 1. Police served Kim at 8:13 a.m. May 3 at the Roznowski’s home in the 2000 block of Southwest 353rd Place.

“He was very compliant and asked a lot of questions about the hearing that he was supposed to appear for. He was completely compliant and prepared himself to leave the residence and there were no concerns at that time,” said Federal Way Police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock.

After he left the home, Kim contacted a family friend. According to police reports, the friend reported that Kim seemed despondent and was possibly suicidal and homicidal.

At 11:26 a.m., police returned to the home to complete a welfare check. Looking in through a window, officers saw Kim attempting to harm himself with a knife, Schrock said.

“They obviously suspected that he was attempting to commit suicide,” she said. “They saw him with a knife and he was cutting his wrist at that time.”

Officers forced entry into the home, retrieved the knife and secured the suspect. Then they found the Roznowski dead with multiple stab wounds. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Kim was then transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Roznowski and Kim had been dating for at least two years, Schrock said. Police responded to verbal domestic dispute calls at the home in 2006 and again in April 2008. No injuries were reported in either incident.
