First place feels mighty good for the Thomas Jefferson boys soccer team. The Raiders moved into a tie for the top spot Friday night with a 2-1 win over the Kentwood Conquerors. Both TJ and Kentridge currently sit 7-2-3 in the South Puget Sound League North Division with four matches remaining in the regular season. The Raiders and Kentridge play on the final day of the season, May 8, at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Against Kentwood, the Raiders picked up the game-winning goal from Chris Miller in the 77th minute to break a 1-1 tie. Miller took a pass from Ernan Roman and beat the Kentwood goalkeeper to give TJ the 2-1 win.

Jefferson’s Chase Hanson got the scoring going early in the second half after the two teams played a 0-0 first 40 minutes. Hanson took a pass from Amos Nistrian in the 47th minute to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Kentwood’s only goal of the game came 10 minutes later from Philip Urban.

Beamer remained in the SPSL South Division race with a 7-0 shutout of the Bethel Braves Friday night. The win improved the Titans to 8-2-2 in the South. Rogers leads the division at 8-1-2, including two wins over Beamer.

Against Bethel, the Titans got two goals each from Troy Peterson, Ugo Okoli and Erik Lissak and a single goal from Ian Lange. Benjamin Draeger and Scott Ferrin combined on the shutout in goal for Beamer.

Decatur (6-3-2) downed the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles Friday, 4-2. The Gators got goals from Alejandro Davenport, Jimmy Hong, Michael Klavuhn and Austin Nuss during the game.

Fastpitch

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders won their fifth game in a row Friday with a 2-0 shutout of the Kentridge Chargers. Senior left-hander Jessica Dickson limited the Chargers to just three hits and struck out six in seven innings of work. The win moved the Raiders to 9-3 in the SPSL North.

Offensively, TJ scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Raiders’ four hits came from Christi Bruin, Jayme Carbon, Erin Fujita and Hannah Kiyohara. Carbon and Kiyohara scored the only two runs of the game.

Beamer (6-6) split a pair of games Thursday and Friday. The Titans beat Curtis Thursday, 7-4, and were shut out Friday by Puyallup, 4-0.

Against Curtis, the Titans tallied four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the Vikings. Brianne Grosche finished 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and Stephanie Wong was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Leah Choi also had a pair of RBIs.

Girls tennis

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders picked up a huge win Friday over the first-place Kentwood Conquerors, 3-2. The Raiders (8-6) got a pair of three-set wins from Carli Kitsch at No. 1 singles and Emily Tu and Vanessa Sariego at No. 2 doubles. The Raiders’ third win came from Mackenzie Qualls and Caroline Min at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-3.

Kitch beat Kentwood’s Niki Skinner, 6-2, in the first set, but dropped the second set, 2-6, before taking the third, 6-4. Tu and Sariego were blasted in the opening set by Aera Shin and Camille Madsen, 1-6, but came back to win the next two, 6-2, 6-2.

The Raiders also downed Kent-Meridian in a double-header on Thursday, 4-1 both times. Jefferson won all six doubles’ matches.

The Decatur Gators moved to 8-2 in the SPSL South with a 3-2 win over Rogers Thursday. The two teams were tied for second place behind unbeaten Puyallup entering the match.

Decatur’s wins came from Sarah Lin at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, Meghan Cassens and Jen Kanesta at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-1, and Christina Sessoms and Eunice Lee at No. 2 doubles, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Boys track

The Federal Way Eagles remained unbeaten in the SPSL North with a 99-37 win over Kentlake Thursday. Federal Way got three individual wins from Andre Barrington in the high jump (6-4), triple jump (44-10 1/2) and 110 hurdles (15.52). Senior Andru Pulu won the shot put (49-2) and discus (150-9) and Robert Shelby tied Barrington in the 110 hurdles (15.52) and won the 300 hurdles (39.35).

Federal Way’s other wins came from Anatoliy Koval in the pole vault (12-6), Jeffrey Forbes in the 400 (52.45), Deshawn Williams in the 1,600 (4:41.38) and Grayson Wolf in the 3,200 (10:51.41).

Jefferson swept Kentwood and Auburn Riverside Thursday in a three-way SPSL North meet. The Raiders beat Kentwood, 73-63, and Auburn Riverside, 75-61.

Jefferson got a pair of individual wins from Michael Sallee in the long jump (20-6) and triple jump (40-4). The Raiders’ other wins came from Joe Satterwhite in the discus (120-4), Jeff Baklund in the 800 (1:59.48) and Paul Johnson in the 200 (23.85).

Girls track

The Federal Way Eagles squeaked by the Kentlake Falcons Thursday, 71-69. The Eagles got three individual wins from Jaleecia Roland in the high jump (5-0), long jump (16-3) and triple jump (36-9 1/4). Federal Way also got a pair of wins from Jacqie Evenson in the 100 hurdles (15.54) and 300 hurdles (47.09), Tiara Fuller in the 100 (13.13) and 200 (26.88) and Jasmine Johnson in the 400 (1:04.48) and 3,200 (12:15.87).

Jefferson split a three-way meet with Auburn Riverside and Kentwood Thursday. The Raiders beat Auburn Riverside, 80-51, and lost to Kentwood, 91-50. Jefferson’s wins came from Lindsey Dahl in the 300 hurdles (49.32) and triple jump (32-7), Kendra Ansotigue in the javelin (109-8), Stephanie Cox in the 100 hurdles (17.13) and Monica Jaenicke in the 1,600 (5:31.57).
