Three adults and two children were sent to the hospital after a fire broke out in a Federal Way home.
The call, for a house fire at 305th Place South and 38th Avenue South, came at 12:45 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters arrived to a lot of smoke and the house was quickly fully involved, spokeswoman Kendra Kay said.
There were 10 patients at the scene; five of them — four adults and one young child about 1 year old — were treated on scene and released.
Four patients were considered code red, meaning serious or life threatening, and sent to Harborview Medical Center. Two of those were young boys, between the ages of 3-5, who suffered from smoke inhalation. An adult female was also transported to Harborview for smoke inhalation.
One adult male was transported with severe burns.
A fifth patient, an adult male, was transported to St. Francis Hospital with less serious injuries.
All those at the home were extended family, including a brother and sister with their significant others and children.
The King County Fire Marshal is investigating the scene, focusing primarily on the backside of the house, which has a daylight basement that may be where the fire started, Kay said.
The Red Cross is on the scene to help the family.
