The four Federal Way high schools had a rough opening week of football, as all four teams lost.

Federal Way

Leading the way was second-ranked Federal Way High School, taking on fifth-ranked Union. The Eagles looked deserving of their second-ranked spot for the first half of their game, taking a 21-7 lead over Union heading into halftime. Union came roaring back in the second half, however, eventually edging out the Eagles 32-27.

All-star running back Chico McClatcher continued his strong play from 2013, scoring three touchdowns, including a 99-yard run on a blocked field goal.

The Eagle’s early season schedule gets no easier this week, as they’re set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Camas. The Papermakers knocked off Chiawana this week, in a rematch of last year’s 4A state championship game.

Thomas Jefferson

The Raiders started off the season with a 43-21 loss to Puyallup. Mason De La Cruz scored two touchdowns, one on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and the other on a 18-yard pass late in the game. An 89-kickoff returned rounded out the Raiders points on the evening. The Raiders play next at 7 p.m. on Friday when they host Graham-Kapowsin.

Beamer

The Titans saw a tough Week 1 loss to Rogers, 28-21. Taylor Davis accounted for two of the Titan’s touchdowns, connecting on 34 and 50 yard passes. Beamer hung tough, despite the loss of last seasons’s SPSL leading rusher Brody Martinez to season-ending knee injuries. Beamer kicks off against Evergreen at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Federal Way.

Decatur

The Gators started off the season with a 56-42 loss to Spanaway Lake. It was a combination of the Isaiah’s for the Gators, with quarterback Isaiah Hatch throwing for two touchdowns to Isaiah Diggs, while Hatch also scored three touchdowns on the ground. Diggs also got on the board defensively, with a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Gators play next at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Kentlake.
