The Thomas Jefferson girls picked up a huge win over the Auburn Riverside Ravens Wednesday afternoon, 21-35, on their home course at TJ.
The Raiders swept the first three places over the 3.1-mile course. Lacey Printz continued her impressive season by winning the race in 20:09. Monica Jaenicke finished second in 20:35 and Leah Kiyohara was third in a time of 20:35.
The win improves Thomas Jefferson to 2-0 in the South Puget Sound League Central Division, which includes the four Federal Way schools, along with Curtis and Auburn Riverside.
On the boys’ side, Auburn Riverside got the best of the Raiders, 22-37, despite TJ’s Jeff Baklund winning the race in 16:12.5. The Ravens had the next three finishers before Chase Braxmeyer finished in fifth place.
The Beamer girls improved to 1-1 on the season with an 18-44 win over Federal Way Wednesday at Federal Way High School. The Titans’ Sara Mussa and Taylor Kartes finished first and second during the race. Mussa ran a time of 16:49 and Kartes was next at 17:05.6. Federal Way’s highest placer was Jasmine Johnson in third at 17:18.7.
The Beamer boys squeaked by the Eagles Wednesday, 28-31. Federal Way’s Meron Simon won the race in a time of 14:02 and his teammate, Deshawn Williams, finished second in 14:28.5. Beamer was led by the third-place finish by Luke Martin in 14:38.9.
The Curtis Vikings swept the Decatur Gators Wednesday afternoon at Celebration Park. The Viking girls beat the Gators, 21-34, and the boys won, 20-39.
The girls were led by the fourth-place finish by Duncan. The Decatur boys were led by the third-place finish by Connor Adkisson in a time of 17:21.
Boys tennis
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders (5-0) remained unbeaten and atop the SPSL Central Division with a 5-0 win over the Auburn Riverside Ravens Tuesday. The Raiders won all five matches in straight sets. Joe Lee won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0, and Makoa and Kainoa Rosa won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-2.
The Decatur Gators picked up their first victory of the season Tuesday over the Curtis Vikings, 3-2. The Gators (1-4) got wins from Abisheck Murali at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, Harry Choi and Devin Murphy at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6, and Alex Eddy and Max Crayhan at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-3.
Girls golf
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders got by the Federal Way Eagles Tuesday at the Northshore Golf Course, 70-51. Alexus Song earned medalist honors by firing a 44. Federal Way’s Emily Victor was the low scorer for the Eagles with a 47.
Volleyball
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders remained unbeaten during the early season with a 3-2 win over the Kent-Meridian Royals on the opening day of play in the SPSL North Division. The Raiders (4-0 overall, 1-0 in the North) downed the Royals, 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 15-13.
Jefferson got 22 kills, two blocks and seven digs from Katelyn Nugent and 14 kills and 18 digs from Kendra Ansotigue. The Raiders also got 36 assists from Allie Crowe.
Jefferson also beat Federal Way Monday, 25-19, 25-15, 25-21, to complete a sweep of the three other district schools. Nugent and Ansotigue both had seven kills, and Crowe had 16 assists.
Beamer and Federal Way both dropped their SPSL openers Wednesday. The Titans were swept by Puyallup, 25-14, 25-8, 25-12. Beamer got five kills from McKenna Grotefend.
Federal Way lost in four games to Kentlake, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-12. The Eagles got 15 assists from Christina Ventura, and seven kills and four blocks from Jaleecia Roland.
Girls soccer
The Decatur Gators improved to 3-0-1 in the SPSL South with a 16-0 blowout of the Bethel Braves Tuesday night. Decatur had 11 different players score at least one goal. The Gators got two goals from Ashley Graves, Lauren O’Neal, Ellie Franco, Allison Lewis and Jennifer Kanesta. Kayla Lipston and Alex O’Neal combined on the shutout in goal for the Gators.
