Why is Regina Ambrose so concerned about the Hispanic crowd? (“Did you reach Hispanic folks,” letters to the editor, June 4).

Nobody forced Hispanics to come to an English-speaking country — legally or illegally. That was their choice.

I don’t believe it’s up to an entire country to accommodate itself to non-English-speaking people who decided on their own free will to come here to live. I would think it would behoove them to learn to speak the language of the country that they chose.

And no, I don’t think The Mirror should be “ashamed” if they choose not to print in Spanish. It has always been an English-speaking paper serving an English-speaking country. If we were to go to Mexico and decide to make it out home, you may be certain they wouldn’t be hustling to print everything in English for our convenience. They wouldn’t use their tax dollars to give us free schooling, medical care and free groceries, either.

My legal immigrant grandparents learned the language, taught it to their kids and adopted the ways of the United States.

I say the Hispanics should learn English, teach it to their kids and try to fit in. If they don’t choose to do that, would they please go back to Mexico, where they can speak Spanish to their hearts’ content?
